Difficulty with balance can be common after having a stroke. We need proper balance for preventing falls and maintaining coordination between our different body parts. Here are just a few exercises that target balance, but there are many more. Be sure to have the proper set-up prior to doing these exercises and be sure to stop if you feel any pain! Proper set-up includes a stable seat, cleared floor space, something stable to hold onto for balance such as a mobility device or chair, and assist from caregiver if needed.
Here are 6 exercises you can try:
- Heel raises (seated or standing)
- Sit-to-stands
- Single leg stands
- Side leg raises
- Weight shifts (side to side, forward and backward)
- Mini squatsÂ
