After Stroke --What is a Subluxation?

What is a Subluxation?

Weak or paralyzed muscles can cause the arm bone to partially dislocate from the shoulder socket. This can lead to:

  • Pain
  • Limited movements
  • Potential injury

Complete gentle stretches or exercises given to you from your care team! If pain is not decreasing or movement is getting harder, let them know!

Subluxation is a medical term that can be confusing. It means partially out of socket. If you have a subluxation it is important to avoid overhead movements or quick jerky movements. Always talk to your therapy team if you are having decreased motions or increased pain!
