ASF -- Everyone has their own struggles

Lonnie is a member of the American Stroke Foundation. His favorite part of ASF is playing cards and socializing with his friends at the foundation. He also enjoys the opportunity to meet new friends as more people join.

When not at ASF, Lonnie loves to get outside when he can. He enjoys taking in the fresh air on walks around his yard and the neighborhood. Lonnie also loves watching the news to stay up on current events and what’s happening in local and national politics.

Lonnie has a fantastic support system in his sister, his niece, and his two yellow Labrador retrievers, Connor and Cody. He appreciates all of the work his niece does for him in managing his medication and making sure his dogs always have enough food around. Connor and Cody are very loving and are always excited to spend time with Lonnie. Although he can no longer do everything he used to, he remains very positive after his stroke and focuses on all of the things he can still do. Lonnie loves how socially supportive ASF has been and says having a place like this has helped comfort him and his family.

Lonnie says that his stroke has given him perspective and made more understanding of others. His advice to others is to be more mindful and realize that everyone has their own struggles.
